Larry Agnew

Position and description of what you do: Volunteer Coordinator — I recruit, train and coordinate volunteers who work individually and on teams consisting of 5-7 volunteers. As of July 2006, there were 35 volunteers actively involved. The volunteers' purpose is to assist the directors and managers of DG to “spread a passion for the supremacy of God in all things through Jesus Christ by multiplying the writing and speaking ministry of John Piper.

How long have you been involved with DG? I started working as a volunteer with DG in February 2003 and came on staff in December 2003.

Place of birth: Alexandria , MN

Some favorite dead guys/gals: Jonathan Edwards, C.H. Spurgeon, Martyn Lloyd Jones, Andrew Murray, A.W. Tozer, C.S. Lewis, Carl F.H. Henry, Alexandre Dumas

Some favorites still among the living: John Piper, David Wells, C.J. Mahaney

A favorite Piper quote: “God is glorified precisely when we are satisfied in him when we delight in his presence, when we like to be around him, when we treasure his fellowship. This is an utterly life-changing discovery. It frees us to pursue our joy in God and God to pursue his glory in us. Because they are not two different pursuits. God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him.” Let the Nations Be Glad: The Supremacy of God in Missions , p. 27

Family information:
Wife: Alice
Six children and 13 grandchildren

On living in the Twin Cities: Growing up in the 40's-50's in the West End of Duluth I often thought “I never want to live in Mpls./St. Paul.” Now Alice and I live on Duluth Street , one block from Lake Phalen in St. Paul. "The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps." Proverbs 16:9

What do you enjoy most for refreshment? Meditating in the morning on a daily devotional reading and praying through the scriptures; playing scrabble with Alice; canoeing on the St. Croix River near Marine on St. Croix; reading mission biographies; gardening with Alice & grandchildren.

Ministry involvement other than DG: In 1984 I began working with Romanian refugees. In 1986 we lived among Romanians in Los Angeles for six months learning Romanian and preparing to go to Romania . We were commissioned as missionaries and sent out by the Romanian Baptist Church of Los Angeles. In 1987 I made my first short term trip to Romania and Poland and have made 10 additional trips since (four with Alice ) staying up to two months at a time. I am currently serving as a liaison between CDG, TBI and a group of 12-15 Baptist Church leaders in Romania who have a vision for the establishment of a Reformed Theological Training Center in the southeastern part of the country near the Black Sea . Additionally they are consulting with CDG leaders regarding future training of children's ministry workers and the translation of CDG curriculum. I also lead a small group of eight men from BBC in weekly men's bible study.
