How Is Desiring God Funded?
DG is funded essentially in three ways:
- Contributions from Donors,
- Royalties from John Piper's books, and
- Revenue from resource sales and conferences.
We do not cover all of our expenses through resource sales, because 1) we seek to set our prices as low as we can, 2) we give tens of thousands of dollars worth of resources away each year, and 3) we are always in some stage of developing and sustaining projects [link to the “what your gift sponsors” page] to spread the vision around the world.
Contributions
A significant and growing percentage (about 40%) of our support comes from the generous giving of our friends (see our Don't Give Us Your Tithe! section on our donate page.).
Royalties
John Piper personally receives no royalties from any of his books. The copyrights are owned by the Desiring God Foundation (a completely separate organization from Desiring God), not by John himself, and the royalties are used to spread a passion for the supremacy of God in all things. About 15% of DG’s support is granted by the DG Foundation.
Resources and Conferences
The rest of our support comes in through resource sales and conferences.
