Piper's Message at Texas A & M
April 4, 2007 | By: Abraham Piper | Category: DG Resources, Don't Waste Your LifeThe audio from Piper's time at Rez Week is online now. His message was called "Radical Effects of the Resurrection." You may notice that this is the same title as this week's Taste & See Article. This message is Piper expanding on the thoughts in that article.
Here is a summary:
The hope of the resurrection radically changed the way Paul lived. It freed him from materialism and consumerism. It gave him the power to go without things that many people feel they must have in this life. For example, though he had the right to marry (1 Corinthians 9:5), he renounced that pleasure because he was called to bear so much suffering. This he did because of the resurrection.
This is a radical call for us to look hard at out present lives to see if they are shaped by the hope of the resurrection. Do we make decisions on the basis of gain in this world or gain in the next? Do we take risks for love’s sake that can only be explained as wise if there is a resurrection?
And here is an update from Lukas:
Last night John Piper preached for an hour to a silent audience of 2,000 people on the campus of Texas A & M. The seats were filled mainly with students from Texas A & M, but we did meet others from as far away as Arkansas, Dallas, Austin, and Houston. John Piper’s message tied together themes from Don’t Waste Your Life and the resurrection of Christ drawn from 1 Corinthians 15, recruiting men and women to treasure Christ and the advancement of the gospel above treasuring comfort.
Our other intention in being at the campus was to give away resources, and I am happy to report that we are coming back to Minneapolis with no left over resources! It is no small thing to us that there are Christians around the country who are laboring to spread a passion for the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples where they live. Our prayers have now shifted to asking God to do a mighty work in the lives and hearts of those who get the 2,500 Fifty Reasons books, the 3,500 Don’t Waste Your Life books, the 500 "Light & Heat" CDs that were distributed. Please join us in praying.
