From the topic: Pastoral Ministry

"For Our People and for the Cities of God"

By John Piper January 27, 1981

The joy of ministry is compounded when we have partners.  Jesus had the 70; then, closer yet, he had the 12.  Then, when the pressure was really on, he went away with Peter, James and John.  Paul took Barnabas, then Silas, then Timothy.

"Iron sharpens iron; and so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend" (Proverbs 27:17).  When it comes to persons, one plus one is more than two!

God has been blessing his word at Bethlehem.  Last Sunday we had 570 people in the morning worship.  But now with the coming of Glenn Ogren we can look forward to something more; the mobilizing of our growing church for concerted outreach and the solidifying of our gains through the formation of smaller home groupings for prayer and study and fellowship.

Let's all give Glenn Ogren our encouragement and prayer.  It is not just a man who is coming, but an answer to prayer, and emissary of God!  "Thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere" (2 Corinthians 2:14).

Expectantly,

Pastor John
