How Then Shall We Run? Olympic Spirituality

The Olympic Games are a reminder from God of how we are to live the Christian life. We run the race and fight the fight of faith in the same way that athletes strive for gold. But our reward is infinitely greater - a crown of righteousness that the Lord will give to all who love his appearing. And so we run with zeal and earnestness and endurance and self-control, not to earn a perishable prize, but to lay hold of that for which we were laid hold of by Christ Jesus. When we exercise self-denial and discipline, we do so in the strength that God supplies, so that in everything he will get the glory.
