Shamed, but Not Ashamed

The Gospel does two things: it elicits shaming behavior from the unbelieving and it gives freedom from shame to those who believe. Christians will feel both. The Gospel is the power of God for salvation, so when we are shamed for it, we despise that shame with our eyes set on the joy of our salvation to come. Do not be embarrassed by the gospel—it is the only message that will be finally triumphant. Believe it, then bear up under the shame you will receive by pondering the Gospel’s power to save you and even those who hurt you. Be shamed, yes, but do not be ashamed.
