The Supremacy of God in the Life of the Mind - 2003

How should we think about the life of the mind? The Bible alerts us to both the danger and the necessity of the mind. Knowledge puffs up; much study is a weariness of the flesh; and God will destroy the wisdom of the wise. Yet, we are called to be mature in our thinking; to think over what the biblical authors say, and to gird up the loin of our minds. In this lecture for the Centennial of Northwestern College, John Piper argues that we must not sever the life of the mind from the supremacy of God. He passionately calls all of us—even those not in formal education—to seek the conscious and worshipful experience of God’s supremacy in the use of our minds, together with an intentional display of this supremacy in our mental work.
