Sustained By Sovereign Grace—Forever

We are utterly fickle and unreliable. If left to our own powers to persevere we would make shipwreck of our faith. But praise God for his sovereign, sustaining grace, which John Piper defines in a four-line rhyme:

Not grace to bar what is not bliss,
Nor flight from all distress, but this:
The grace that orders our trouble and pain,
And then, in the darkness, is there to sustain.
