The Deadly Team of Sin and Law - Romans 7:1-13

Picture the Law as a surgeon’s scalpel. It is meant for life and healing. Sin comes and takes the scalpel of God’s commandments and slashes people’s throats with it. Why would God allow this? Paul answers: “so that through the commandment sin would become utterly [=exceedingly, immeasurably] sinful” (Rom. 7:13). Freedom from sin into a life of fruit-bearing for God does not come through the law, it comes by dying to the law and its partner sin, so that you can belong to another—to a new living, powerful Person, Jesus Christ.
