Looking Back... And Ahead

God has pushed us far beyond what we envisioned when we began in 1994. Our staff has grown from 1 to more than 35. We have gone from distributing a few hundred books per year to hundreds of thousands per year. Hundreds of thousands of audio, video & print messages and articles now flow out around the world, most of them through this website which is receiving approx. 23,000 visits a day or approx. 8.2 million visits per year. And our resources have been distributed into over 170 countries that we know of and translated into more than 30 languages.

As we move into the future, we are aware of the danger of growth. The bigger we get, the greater the temptation to refrain from risk. It's tempting to be pre-occupied with internal systems and management. It's tempting to be anxious about financial security.

But our calling is to spread a passion for the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples through Jesus Christ. We are not called to preserve ourselves but to spend ourselves. We are called to treasure Christ and show him as glorious to as many people as possible. When you think of us, pray that the Lord will continue to give us grace to love him passionately, trust him radically, give generously, and preach Christ boldly.

Timeline

1994: DGM officially begins.
1997: 5 full- and part-time DGM staff.
2000: DGM United Kingdom is launched.
2001: 15 full-and part-time DGM staff members.
2004: DGM Radio begins airing on 25 stations.
2004: 1.6 million copies of John Piper's book, The Passion of Jesus Christ, distributed.
2004: Desiring God is 10 years old and has 25 full- and part-time staff members.
