Community Outreach: Vacation Bible School

In 2008 God opened the door for Trinity Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas to take Vacation Bible School (VBS) outside the four walls of their church and into the local community. This provided a unique opportunity to show love to children in their own neighborhoods—many of whom would never come to a church for VBS. Their desire to teach Bible truth melded perfectly with the vision of Children Desiring God (CDG) and they found the Backyard Bible Club curriculum a helpful resource. The goal of these four evangelistic curriculum is to awaken spiritual interest and feed spiritual hunger by exposing children to the Truth.

As the team from Trinity Baptist shares God-centered teaching on s…

Introducing the New Fighter Verses

Since 1997, Bethlehem Baptist Church has encouraged church-wide Bible memory using the Fighter Verse Bible memorization program. Preschoolers, children, youth, and adults have joined together to store up God’s word in their hearts.

After 13 years, Fighter Verses has undergone a makeover—both in content and appearance—but the vision remains the same: To encourage the body of Christ to fight the fight of faith.

To this end, Children Desiring God provides tools for church and home to equip believers in their memorization:

  • Fighter Verses is a five-year program which includes 52 passages per year (260 total). You can purchase verse cards or view the list of verses.
  • For those who prefer to…

The Watters' Story: God's Providence over Curriculum, Cancer, and Adoption

In 2002, Mike and Deb Watters began teaching the curriculum, My Purpose Will Stand, in the sixth grade Sunday School at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Although they didn't know it at the time, God was teaching them the truths of His sovereignty to prepare them for what was to come.

In 2006 their six-year-old daughter, Corinne, was diagnosed with cancer. Knowing and trusting a sovereign God equipped them to persevere in the face of surgery, chemotherapy, and ongoing treatment.

But God was doing something even greater. At the hospital they met a young boy named Victor, who was undergoing treatment for the same type of cancer as Corinne. Watch the video to learn more about God's providence in …

New Youth Curriculum: Your Word is Truth

Children Desiring God is pleased to announce a new 40-week study for junior high students, Your Word is Truth.

The goal of this study is that, through the work of the Holy Spirit, the authoritative Truth of the Bible might be understood and embraced in order to be a lens through which students may interpret all of life. Our hope is that students would not be conformed to the thinking of this world, but be transformed by the renewal of their minds, that by testing they might discern what is good and acceptable (Romans 12:2). Finally, as the students grow in their own love and delight of the Truth, we want to encourage and equip them to stand firm in an increasingly hostile culture, boldly a…

The Bridge Ministry: Reaching Children in the City

The Bridge is an urban outreach ministry of Southwest Church in Topeka, Kansas. One aspect of their ministry includes a Bible study outreach program that uses Children Desiring God (CDG) curriculum.

This video shares how Chris Stewart and his team use CDG material in their ministry, and how families have benefitted from exposure to God-centered teaching. Children are learning about the God of the Bible, and memorizing Scripture. As one mother shares about her daughter, "She wants to read the Bible more." Praise God for using this ministry to create a hunger for his Word in the hearts of children!

New Scripture Songbook

Help children hide God’s Word in their hearts through song. Let the Little Children Sing contains 90 Scripture songs for children that can be used in the Sunday School classroom, with children’s choirs, or at home.

In the preface the author, Necia Sneed Ramsey, shares,

In my search for singable songs serving solid spiritual food in small bites, a set of scripture songbooks in a homeschool catalog caught my attention. Many of the songs became family favorites. I didn’t expect to ever write one myself, but as I taught many children in many settings, we needed songs.

This book is the answer to the desperate prayer of a stranded teacher with just enough musical ability and training to k…
