Announcing beta.desiringgod.org

We are thrilled to announce the *beta launch of our new website at beta.desiringgod.org. A lot of hard work went into creating this site, and we are by no means finished, but we want to share at least some of the new features with you today:

1) Personalization – Create a more personalized DesiringGod.org experience by setting up your own account at beta.desiringgod.org/network. Sign into the Desiring God site with your Facebook username / password or create an account on the new Desiring God Network. Your profile will be available at beta.desiringgod.org/yourname.

Add links to your blog, add your Twitter stream as profile updates, and connect with others by making your profile viewable on a Google map. (Don’t worry—if you don't want to be public, there are options to keep a profile private as well.)

2) Favorite Resources – Really love a particular article…

New Website Feature: Recurring Online Donations

We're excited to announce that we have a new option for donating to Desiring God—recurring online donations.

In the past we've asked users to print, fill out, and return a form. (Thanks to everyone who did that! It's still available, but it's still quite a chore.) Now all you have to do is simply check the "Automatically donate this amount each month" button, and you can turn any online gift into a monthly-recurring donation.

The reason we're announcing this is that, as a ministry, we are dependent on God through donations to make things like our website, live events, and WYCA policies possible.

If knowing about this option serves your desire to give, that's great. If not, we understand and remain eager to provide resources and services that help you live out your faith.

Love Your Neighbor—Near and Far

Two recent events have me thinking about how we as Christians can love our neighbors—one global tragedy everyone knows about and a local tragedy you may not have heard about.

The earthquake in Haiti has caused massive destruction and suffering. The people in Haiti need help, and many thousands are responding. I'm pleased to report that Desiring God has partnered with three organizations, Food for the Hungry, Haiti Rescue Center, and Children's Hunger Fund, to provide some relief to the immediate suffering in the country.

The other event was a recent triple homicide at a Somali market one block from the Desiring God office. The front desk worker, Abdifatah Warfa, his cousin, Mohamed Warfa, who had just stopped in to give Abdifatah some tea, as well as a customer, Anwar Mohammed, were shot to death in a suspected robbery attempt.

A colleague and I went…

Desiring God in China, Day 1

On Day 1 of the Desiring God trip to China, we were able to experience firsthand some of the amazing things God is doing here.

Desiring God in China

Our first visit was to The Phillip Hayden Foundation, a foster home specializing in care for children with serious medical conditions or special needs. It was so encouraging to see dozens of staff and volunteers selflessly putting James 1:27 into practice.

We then met with an American expat family from Minnesota for an authentic (read: not Panda Express!) Chinese lunch and fellowship. Their business—and family—has been growing. They plan to add another employee this summer, and even more exciting, they are praying that their unique adoption case will be finalized later this year.

For the rest of the day, we received a crash course on the current state of Christianity and Religion in China from three Chinese citizens:
