He Finished Well: A Tribute to Mike Stohlmeyer

On February 11, 2012, at age 61, Mike Stohlmeyer, a good friend of and mission partner with us at Desiring God, entered the joy of his master, Jesus Christ. After a 39-year battle with Crohn’s Disease, Mike’s body finally succumbed but his spirit did not. He finished well and no doubt was greeted with the words “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21).

Mike lived in Ames, IA, with his beloved wife, Maureen, who beautifully and faithfully served with and cared for Mike during their 34-year marriage. Mike served as a pastor and passionate teacher of God’s word at Stonebrook Church in Ames until weakened health forced him to step down in the mid-1980’s.

But Mike didn’t was…

Heads Up On Our New Email Lists

When we send out mass email message from Desiring God, our aim is not advertising.  Rather, we seek to encourage and equip you with God's word. This takes the form of notifications about new sermons, articles, and other resources freely available on our site, as well as new books, CDs, DVDs, events, specials, and other resources for sale in our store, prayer requests and ministry updates. We try to pay close attention to the amount of e-mail sent to our various email lists so as not to overwhelm your already full inbox.

We are in the middle of switching our e-mail list service to another provider.  The end result should be better e-mails and list service for you, and more effectiveness wit…

Subscribe to the THINK Conference Podcast

Audio from the National Conference sessions is coming in and video will be following shortly. You can subscribe to the podcast of the conference so you won't need to worry about downloading each individual session manually. Make it come to you instead!

The podcast comes in two flavors:

Visit the DG Network Booth, Help Us Improve The Site

The Web team will be manning a booth in the exhibit hall at the National Conference. We will be showcasing and demo-ing the new DG Network and other features of the new Web site.

While we're there, we'd love your feedback on the new site. We'd also love to take the opportunity to do some user testing if some of you would like to volunteer as test subjects.

The process is very simple: we just observe how you use the site—the different paths you use to get at various resources, roadblocks you run into when trying to create and use a new DG Network account, etc. It'll be quick and painless (probably) for you, and extremely enlightening for us.

So, if you are going to the conference and …

New Web Site Feature: Personalized Favorites Library

With the launch of the new Web site comes a few new pieces of functionality designed to help you use and spread Desiring God resources more effectively. We will be highlighting these new functions over the next few days.

Once you have created an account, you have the ability to "favorite" a resource or blog post, saving it to your profile for later reference. The video below shows you how that works. Very simply, once you are logged in, look for the "favorite" link with a star icon on anything in the resource library or blog, and click it!

You will then be able to "tag" your favorites using keywords that will help you sort your favorites the way you see fit.

Now, when someone asks y…

Welcome to the New Web Site

Many of you have seen the preview of our new site over the summer, but we've cleaned out the remaining errors and ported over all of the content into this fresh new site.  Everything you see except for the store has been rebuilt from the ground up with the goal of better serving the global church, starting with you.

The changes we've made were focused on making it easier for you to find, read (or listen or watch), and share our resources with your friends and the world.

Over the next several days we will be posting small instructional posts highlighting each of the new features of the site. For now, create an account (if you need help, see the video below), and start exploring!

If you'…

New DG Web Development Update and Call for Help

Last month we launched the public preview of the new DesiringGod.org, opening it up for your feedback and asking you to help us find problems with the Web site. Your response was amazing! A lot of great feedback was given, many bugs were discovered, and great improvements will result. We are grateful for all of you who took the time to take a look and write us.

We have been hard at work since then, and we are currently in the middle of a major push to complete this project. The whole Web team is literally working night and day this week, fixing problems and making improvements which you will see rolling out over the next several weeks.

But we could use your help, one more time.

Th…
