…John Piper's Journal Entry On January 27, 1987
We are excited to announce that the 25th Anniversary Edition of the book Desiring God is now available.
Who could have known what God's gracious intentions were 25 years ago when this volume first arrived for publication? Looking back, we have only praise and thanksgiving to God for how He has used it to encourage and equip the Church.
And as we look forward, it is our faith-filled prayer that God will glorify himself through the truths in this book, opening the eyes of millions around the world to seek Jesus Christ as their treasure and joy.
January 27, 1987—
Yesterday when I walked into the office there was a package in my box. . . . It was the first copy of DESIRING GOD.
I shut the door to my study as I opened it and fell to my knees at my chair with the book in my hands. I was trembling and tears came to my eyes. I laid the book before God and pleaded…

Update on Our National Conference Schedule
Our 2010 National Conference is just around the corner. Please join us in prayer that God would bless this event.
The following update contains important information for those who have registered. Some of this information was not on our website at the time you registered. Most of this pertains to the schedule of events on Friday, October 1, the first day of the conference:
Seminar Schedule

Lloyd-Jones on Thinking and Faith
As we continue to prepare for the Desiring God 2010 National Conference, Think: The Life of the Mind and the Love of God, D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones has a good word about the relationship between thinking and faith.
Although he may overstate the case a little—thinking is not the essence of faith—he is right that thinking is essential to faith.
Faith, according to our Lord’s teaching in this paragraph [Matthew 6:25-34], is primarily thinking; and the whole trouble with a man of little faith is that he does not think. He allows circumstances to bludgeon him.
That is the real difficulty in life. Life comes to us with a club in its hand and strikes us upon the head, and we become incapable of thought, helpless and defeated. The way to avoid that, according to our Lord, is to think. We must spend more time in studying our Lord’s lessons in observation and deduction.

It is staggering to consider how many important and interesting conferences are scheduled to take place over the next couple of months. They are unique events which put a strong emphasis on the Word of God, the gospel and the supremacy of Christ in all things. Thanks be to God for these events!
We surely can't mention them all here (and there are surely many good events that we don't even know about), but we thought it might be helpful to highlight a few of these events that you might find of interest. Hopefully you'll be able to attend one or more of these and, in doing so, find your soul encouraged in the Lord.

Pastor, Win a Book for Your Wife
If you've registered for the upcoming DG Conference for Pastors and you're on Twitter, tell us (in 140 characters or less) why your wife is a gift to you in ministry. Be creative and honor her well.
Use the hashtag #dgpascon.
We'll give the best 120 responses (as judged by a panel of DG employees) a free copy of the book One with a Shepherd to be picked up at the conference. (And we might even read some of the best of the best responses at the conference).
Make Hotel Reservations for the Pastors Conference Soon!
Just a friendly reminder if you plan to stay at the conference hotel, you must make your reservations by January 19 in order to receive special pricing on your room.
And there is still plenty of space at the conference itself, so please share the word with other pastors, elders, and church leaders that you know. We look forward to seeing you there!
