Where Same-Sex Attraction Originates; and Where It Ends

This excerpt from John Piper begins as the 10:52 mark of this week's sermon.

Here's the transcript:

Same-sex desires and same-sex orientation are part of our broken and disordered sexuality owing to the God’s subjection of the created order to futility because of man’s sin.

In Genesis 2 we read about the catastrophic moment when the first man and woman rebelled against God. The effects on them and on the world are described in chapters 2 and 3, and then illustrated in the sin-soaked and death-ridden history of the Old Testament, indeed all of history.

The apostle Paul gives the key interpretation of what happened there and its effect on us. Here's his key word from Romans 8:20–21:…

The Original "Desiring God" Sermon Series

Before it ever referred to a book or organization, "Desiring God" was the name of a sermon series preached by John Piper in the Fall of 1983.

The common theme in the series is what Piper controversially called "Christian Hedonism," a philosophy of life based on the biblical conviction that God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him. Piper wrote and preached the series in order to define Christian Hedonism and demonstrate how it is essential to the way Christians worship, pray, approach missions, handle money, and more.

Alongside the original English manuscripts, we now have translations of the entire "Desiring God" sermon series available in three additional lang…

"My Mama Told Me It Was So"

Why does John Piper believe the Bible is true? When recently asked this question he responded that it is first because his mother had taught him it was so.

Grateful for his mother's influence, Pastor John gave a message last month at the Bethlehem Women's Conference on the indispensable priority of the Bible. He explained, "Nothing is more crucial for being the woman God made you to be and knowing how to make your life count than being saturated with the Bible."
