John Piper Discusses the Pleasures of God (Part 1)

"The worth and excellency of a soul is to be measured by the object of its love," Henry Scougal writes in his 17th-century work, The Life of God in the Soul of Man. And if this is true of humans, might it also be true of God?

In 1989, John Piper started a sermon series building on this wonder. This series later became the book, The Pleasures of God, which is a litany of meditations on the worth and excellency of God's soul, namely, himself.

John Piper recently gathered with the Bethlehem Seminary students over three weeks to discuss this book and its implications for ministry. This video features the Part 1 discussion on chapters 1–3:

"Behind the Blog" is an audio glimpse behind the scenes of the Desiring God blog in less than five minutes.

The goal is to add a human element to the 18 or so blog posts we publish each week. That is, we're real people back here. Our hope is to deepen the content by saying more of how it comes about and how we hope to serve our readers, including practical takeaways and mobilizing ideas.

You can also listen here.

Thanks for reading the blog. It exists to serve you. And we value your feedback. Send your questions, ideas, and suggestions to us at blog@desiringgod.org.
