Pray for Passion 2012

The Passion movement began in 1997 when Louie Giglio and Jeff Lewis headed up a gathering of college students in Austin, TX. The movement has since met annually around the United States and the world under the banner of Isaiah 26:8.

Right now some 45,000 college students are gathering in Atlanta for Passion 2012 (watch the live-stream). John Piper is scheduled to speak Wednesday night at approximately 8:15 (EST). When asked about the event and how we should pray, Pastor John writes:

You say: Jesus Christ is supremely to be preferred above all things. For he is supreme over all things. As the Creator is supreme over the created. As the sustainer is supreme over the sustained. As the end is supreme over the means.

"All things were created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold toget…

Video of Bethlehem College and Seminary's Inaugural Convocation

Bethlehem College and Seminary recently put up the video of their Inaugural Convocation. A statement on the school's website explains the significance of the event:

During the course of the convocation, BCS formally installed John Piper as chancellor, Tim Tomlinson as president, and the BCS faculty. It was a public declaration of our intentions to fulfill the calling and mission that we believe the Lord has given BCS. We all felt the weight of the responsibility which we have now taken on and the accountability for fulfilling those responsibilities to which we will be held.

  • 3:54—Tim Johnson, Chair, Council of Elders, Welcome and Invocation
  • 8:06—Hymn
  • 12:36—Tom Steller, Academic Dean, History, Purpose, and Mission

The high point of the message is when Piper makes this plea to listeners (pardon the length—the context is necessary):

If God had not put Christ forward to bear his own wrath, if Christ had not become a curse for us, as Galatians 3:13 says, then all the nations and all Jews would have perished under God’s wrath and entered into everlasting suffering in hell, as Jesus said in Matthew 25:46.

The reason I draw out this implication of the cross is to hold togeth…
