Equipping the Church to Minister to Victims of Sexual Assault

A few months ago we had the privilege of interviewing Justin Holcomb on ministry to victims of sexual assault. Today, Justin and his wife, Lindsey, have published a helpful post over at The Resurgence:

They write:

It is important to address the effects of sexual assault with the biblical message of grace and redemption. Jesus responds to victims' pain and past. The message of the gospel redeems what has been destroyed and applies grace to disgrace. It is our hope you will be equipped to provide accessible gospel-based help, hope, and healing to sexual assault victims who know too well the depths of destruction and the overwhelming sense of disgrace.

A Tool for Accountability in a Pornified Culture

In this Gospel Coalition discussion, D. A. Carson comments about the use of Covenant Eyes for accountability in the battle against Internet pornography —

(Watch on YouTube.)

Today, 72% of kids have been exposed to pornography on the Internet. At colleges,

Covenant Eyes provides an accountability forum that monitors every website visited and rates the content. This information is compiled into easy-to-read reports which are sent regularly to anyone you choose. Start Reading Through the Bible This Summer

Reading through the entire Bible doesn't have to be a decision isolated to the first week of January. It may be something you want to start this summer.

Jason DeRouchie has recently completed a Bible reading plan that looks fantastic. It has a unique arrangement and it can be started at any time of the year.

Get a free download of The KINGDOM Bible Reading Plan (PDF).

DeRouchie lists its five distinctives:

  1. Proportionate weight is given to the Old and New Testaments in view of their relative length, the Old receiving three readings per day and the New getting one reading per day.
  2. The Old Testament readings follow the arrangement of Jesus’ Bible (Luke 24:44––Law, Prophets, Writings), …

A "Desiring God" Rap (by Curt Allen, a.k.a. "Voice")

Listen to "Desiring God" by Curt Allen (a.k.a. "Voice")—

Yay though I walk through the valley of the death man, I wasn't killing sin it was taking my last breath man. I was more than stressed man wasn't living right and it was like I know what's right but my life would go left man. Death was my best man married to my sin and I was on my way to hell for the wedding reception. I was lost but some horizontal and vertical wood formed a cross, and placed upon it a man who was there and stood for the lost. Life is free but it cost the price of blood and this sacrifice is Christ who chose the right to be judged. Instead of me, over time I went from blind to now I better see, my problems bega…

The Connection Between the Gospel and Our Praying

The moment we think that our act of praying or not praying contributes to God's being for us, it is self-righteousness.

Piper explains in this video excerpt:

"Christ died for my sins" is shorthand for "The only way to have God 100% on my side is to receive and rest in—as a gift—who Christ is and what he has done for me, and not who I am and what I did for him." That's the heart of the gospel . . .

Clothed in Righteousness

R. C. Sproul has written a beautiful hymn that you might consider using in your personal, family, or congregational worship:

Fallen race in Eden fair, exposed and full of shame. Fled we naked from Thy sight, far from Thy holy name.

Sent from the garden to the east, outside of Eden's gate, Banished there from Thy pure light were Adam and his mate.

Scarlet souls are now like snow by Thy atoning grace. Crimson hearts become like wool for Adam's fallen race.

No work of ours is good enough for evil to atone. Your merit, Lord, is all we have. It saves and it alone.

Chorus
Clothe us in your righteousness, hide filthy rags of sin, Dress us in Your perfect garb, both outside and within.
