Desiring God and The Gospel Coalition are partnering together to raise $46,000 to send out 10,000 copies of Don Carson’s The God Who is There book and video series to English speaking countries around the world.
Why do we believe that this project so strategic? There are four primary reasons:
1. Crisis - The growth of the church in the Global South has outpaced the number of trained pastors to lead congregations.
- Some researchers say that there are 77,000 new believers added to the global church every day.
- Many pastors in Africa, Asia, and South America will never have access to formal seminary training. Some say up to 85%.
- Anecdotally, we hear over and over again from our partners in the field, how little access these pastors have to solid, theological resources.
2. As important as translation of resources are, English is a global language.
- English is an official language in 53 countries, in many cases as second language, but definitely widely accessible.
- 1 out of 5 people globally can use English resources: 1.7 billion worldwide
- As a ministry we’re definitely working in the realm of translation, but leveraging English is very cost-effective means of spreading God-centered resources.
3. Desiring God is building an emerging global network of missions and church leaders who can get this book directly into the hands of those who need them.
- If you can get good resources into the hands of pastors, you can influence whole congregations.
- A sales model won’t solve the crisis: we have to be missional with literature & content.
- We have been amazed to watch the Lord open up doors for spreading solid theological resources around the world. In the last 12 months DG has provided resources to over 100 countries, in collaboration with our missions partners.

Investing in church leaders is one of the best ways to focus our efforts.
By God’s grace, we are praying and working so that church leaders in places like Mexico, Mongolia, and Mozambique are better equipped to teach their congregations the rich truths of the Gospel.
