Reaching the Muslim World — On the Web

Reaching the Muslim World — On the Web

The mission of Desiring God is that people everywhere would understand and embrace the truth that God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him. Earlier this week, we provided an update that in the last 12-months we've seen a 40% increase in website visits from outside the United States. Under God, it is through your support that we can make this ministry possible. Thank you for your partnership.

Increasingly, we are investing to reach the Muslim world through the web. Earlier this year we launched an Arabic version of our website, and we're excited to announce that just last week we were able to launch a new version of our website in Persian.

A Few Statistics

According to SIL, Arabic is the fourth most common native language on earth, spoken by 221 million speakers in 57 different countries. And Persian is spoken natively by over 31 million people in 29 countries.1 So even just in terms of the numbers and distributions of their speakers, not to mention the fact that most of the speakers are Muslim, these are strategic languages.

Web access in the Middle East continues to grow — there are approximately 78 million people online in the region, which is approximately 36% of the population,2 and 334 million mobile phone connections.3 This number has been steadily rising over the past ten years, and there is every indication that it will continue to do so.4

The Earth is the Lord's! (Psalm 24:1) — God willing, these translated websites represent just the beginning of our efforts to reach the Muslim world through the web.
