Send Us a Quote, Win Some Books
Books don't change lives, sentences do.
In an early sermon at Bethlehem, John Piper explains that sometimes the most life-altering insight from reading is concentrated in a sentence or two. It happens when in the midst of plodding along we stumble upon a "new glimpse of truth, some powerful challenge, some resolution to a long-standing dilemma." We read it and reread it. We're gripped. The lights go on.
Send Us That Quote
Many people have a story like this. There's a quote out there (or maybe a few) that you have read and it just clicked. Well, we'd love to read it, and let our readers see it, too. Would you send it to us?
Here's the Catch
The quote can't be generic. It has to be one that has impacted your life as a means of grace — a quote within the Refomed tradition, under 200 words, that is related to the gospel and sanctification.
The contest begins today through Thursday noon. This Friday we will do a blog post of all the qualifying quotes, and then we'll draw a winner. The winner gets a $75 gift card to Lifeway (who will provide the bookstore at our National Conference).
How to Participate
No purchase is necessary to participate. Simply leave the quote as a "Comment" on our Facebook post or email us (blog@desiringGod.org). Put the quote in this order: author's name, quote, and source.
Here's an example:
Grace-driven effort is violent. It is aggressive. The person who understands the gospel understands that, as a new creation, his spiritual nature is in opposition to sin now, and he seeks not just to weaken sin in his life but to outright destroy it. Out of love for Jesus, he wants sin starved to death, and he will hunt and pursue the death of every sin in his heart until he has achieved success.
The Explicit Gospel, (Wheaton: Crossway, 2012), 217–218.
You can "comment" or email your quote from Monday morning to Thursday 12:00 PM (CDT). We will draw a winner on Friday morning. At Friday noon we'll publish a summary blog post of all qualifying quotes, let you know who wins, and mail the gift card. Thanks for being a part of this!
