In Tim Challies' article today about social media, he writes,
What if there was a ten minute video clip (with transcript) of John Piper sharing the gospel? Wouldn’t it be an amazing thing if [this] could be promoted to the front page [of social media sites] and be seen by thousands or tens of thousands? ... It would be nice to be able to promote just a few kernels of wheat amidst all the chaff.
I don't know if Challies meant to hint that DG should make this video clip happen, but I read it that way, and I think it's a great idea.
So here's a new resource: "The Gospel in 6 Minutes."
(The video has been around for a while, but now there is also audio and a transcript.)
I'm sure Challies is right when he says, "It would require a coordinated effort, I’m sure, and might even be destined to fail." But who knows what God would do if those of you who use social media sites join forces and point people to this gospel presentation! I recognize that getting something like this to spread doesn't happen by asking people to do it, but letting as many people as possible know about it right off the bat sure doesn't hurt.
Thankfully the gospel's success has zero to do with links from popular sites, so if it never shows up on any—no big deal. The gospel's success has everything to do with God.
For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.Isaiah 55:10-11
Maybe God will use social media sites and a gospel presentation by John Piper. We'll never know without trying.
