Enhance your Desiring God Conference for Pastors experience by earning three hours of transferable graduate or undergraduate credit through Southern Seminary. You will attend exclusive lectures and events featuring renowned professors, pastors, and panel discussions.

Undergraduate as well as Graduate students can take a Studies in Theology elective. This course will have readings and assignments to complete along with attendance at all conference plenary sessions.

The early bird registration rate for each class is $699. This cost does not include the registration rate for Desiring God Conference for Pastors. To register for the class, select the Registration fee + Conference Class rate when registering for the conference.


At the graduate level, students can earn Graduate: Studies in Theology (27177-A-CT). At the undergraduate level, students can earn Undergraduate: Studies in Theology (TH315-A-CT).

Your Professor

Shawn D. Wright

Dr. Wright came to Southern Seminary after serving Southern Baptist churches in New England. He has been active in church planting and pastoring and currently serves as one of the pastors at Clifton Baptist Church. In addition to teaching at Southern, he is active in teaching on the mission field and to missionaries there. In addition to contributions in journals, Dr. Wright co-edited Believer’s Baptism: Sign of the New Covenant In Christ (2007) with Tom Schreiner. He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society.

The courses consist of three elements:

  • Conference attendance - Students will attend Desiring God Conference for Pastors. Students must attend the conference in its entirety.
  • Special class-specific lectures and events - Students will attend lectures and special events occasionally throughout the conference. These will begin on Monday morning February 3, 2014 for Studies in Theology. The course syllabus will include more details as the conference approaches.
  • Post-conference assignments - Students will complete written assignments by the end of March 2014 and reading assignments by the beginning of April 2014.

What will the lectures and panels be like?

These academic lectures and panels will be a great companion to the dynamic sessions at Desiring God Conference for Pastors. They will feature some of evangelicalism's best thinkers on important topics. They will also be interactive, allowing students to engage in the discussion.

How do I register for a course?

To register for the course, students should select the appropriate option for attending Desiring God Conference for Pastors for academic credit when they register for the conference.

How much does a Desiring God Conference for Pastors course cost?

The registration rate for the one class the student chooses is $699. This cost does not include the registration rate for Desiring God Conference for Pastors.

What does my course cost include?

The course cost will cover the tuition for the three credit-hours of the one course of the student’s choosing. This course cost is in addition to the registration fee for Desiring God Conference for Pastors attendance. Students are responsible for all other expenses related to travel and lodging.

How do I transfer the course credit back to my school?

Desiring God Conference for Pastors courses are 3-hour credit classes that are fully transferable to another school, based upon the other school's transfer of credit policy. After completing the course, students can request an official transcript be sent to their home institution. Students are encouraged to verify in advance with their home institution how the course will transfer to their particular degree program.

How do I order my books?

Course books can be purchased online or ordered through the Southern Seminary Lifeway Christian bookstore. Purchases can be made in the store, or students can place their order by phone and have the books mailed to them. Students can also order the books through other retailers. The required books for each course are listed in the class's syllabi.

Registration and Refunds

When does registration close?

Course registration ends on the same date as conference registration (unless sold out earlier).

What is your refund policy?

Before January 3, 2014, a full refund is available for canceled registration less a $30 processing fee. Starting January 3, 2014, no refund for cancelled registration will be provided. Thank you in advance for not inquiring regarding exceptions.
