How can we say farewell to one
Who never lived among us?
How cease the song that we’d begun,
And hoped that God had sung us?

Perhaps the answer lies unsaid
Behind the placid glory,
And secrets in his little head
Will later tell the story.

Though now he is not wholly new,
No daughter exultation,
I pray that he will be for you
A son of consolation.
