A Mini-Theology of Hell

Philippians 3:18–21

In this lab, John Piper reminds us that God has not kept silent about the consequences of unrepentant sin. He has filled his word with warnings to cause us to repent.

Some questions to ask as you read and study Philippians 3:18–21:

  1. Do you know what the Bible says about hell? What are some key things it teaches?
  2. Study Revelation 14:9–11, 17:8, and 19:20. How would you describe hell? What does this reality have to do with Paul’s tears in Philippians 3:18?
  3. When was the last time you considered the horrible fate of those who walk contrary to Christ? Spend some time this week praying for their salvation.

Principle for Bible Reading

Word Searches

Word searches are important for deep study of the Bible. To conduct one, search for a particular word throughout the Bible to help clarify meaning and make connections to other Scriptures.

A concordance makes these searches easy as they list words and where each is used in the Bible. Beyond this you can usually search Bible apps or online texts for instances of where specific words are found throughout the Bible.
