Our Favorite Verse in the Bible

Our greatest problem is not cancer, poverty, or death. It is a holy God. In this lab, John Piper reminds us that our only hope is salvation through faith in God’s Son.

Some questions to ask as you read and study John 3:16:

  1. Why do you think people love John 3:16 so much?
  2. Read John 3:1–21. Does reading the text in its context change how you understand John 3:16? In your own words, summarize the main message in one sentence.
  3. Who could you share the bad and good news of John 3:16 with this week?

Principle for Bible Reading

The Golden Rule of Bible Reading

When we open our Bibles, we want to open them eager to learn. But we can fall into a reading habit that silences the authors in favor of our opinions. The solution is to make sure we apply the Golden Rule to our reading: Do unto authors as you would have readers do unto you as an author. From this humble position, we ask God to shape our thoughts and convictions, and respond in obedience instead of misunderstanding.
