Paul’s Philippian Fellowship

Paul certainly viewed his work as a rescue effort. When the Lord gave him a vision of the man begging him to “come over to Macedonia and help us” (Acts 16:9), he went straight the city of Philippi to begin helping. And something beautiful emerged as a result

Years later, while sitting in a Roman prison, Paul wrote to the Philippians,

It was kind of you to share my trouble. And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. (Philippians 4:14-16)

These faithful and generous friends repeatedly supported Paul in his rescue work of preaching and planting churches. Though poor themselves, these Macedonians gave “beyond their means” and “overflowed in a wealth of generosity” (2 Corinthians 8:2-3). And when Paul landed in prison, they kept on supporting him. “Once and again” meant a lot to Paul.

Paul’s word for his partnership with the Philippians was koinōnia. In English, it’s usually translated as “fellowship.” The Philippians loved Paul and believed in his mission, so through their faithful support they partnered—fellowshipped—with him to rescue others.

Desiring God’s Philippian Fellowship!

We at Desiring God have our band of “Philippian” friends. Like the Philippians, these saints give faithfully, generously, and repeatedly to support DG’s work of spreading a passion for the supremacy of God in all things. They “share our trouble” and our joy. So we’re calling our partnership the Philippian Fellowship. With their support we are able to:

  • Make thousands of resources available free on our website, reaching hundreds of thousands of people around the world every year;
  • Aid countless poor, imprisoned, and neglected saints, here and abroad, through our whatever-you-can-afford policy and resource donations;
  • Create inexpensive evangelism materials to help people reach unbelievers;
  • Encourage translations of John’s books and sermons into other languages (thirty languages and counting!).

Join the Philippian Fellowship!

We invite you to join our Philippian Fellowship and partner with Desiring God in the spread of the gospel. This fellowship is open to anyone. All it takes is a sense of call from the Lord to give any financial amount in support of Desiring God for the next 12 months. It might be $10 or it might be $100,000. There is no minimum pledge—whatever you can afford, as the Lord leads.

Here’s how we seek to keep our Philippian Fellowship members encouraged and informed:

  • Weekly DG prayer requests;
  • Monthly ministry letters to nourish and update you;
  • Quarterly Philippian Fellowship newsletters;
  • Monthly featured resources sent automatically;
  • Annual invitation to a “Philippian Fellowship Meeting” with John Piper and DG staff;
  • Annual ministry and financial reports.

Here are four options for joining the Philippian Fellowship:

  • Set up an automatic monthly contribution and we will automatically enroll you in the Philippian Fellowship.   • Contact us and tell us that you plan on giving any amount in the next twelve months and would like to be enrolled in the Philippian Fellowship. Please make sure to include your name and postal address in your email. If you would like to give your gift right away, you can donate online right now.
