Six Reasons to Read the Bible Every Day

Look at the Book Live Seminar | Houston, Texas

Before spending hours of deep, detailed efforts on a single passage of Scripture, we should ask why we are studying the Bible at all. Why is it worth spending our time and minds on this book in particular?

In this segment, John Piper outlines six reasons why the Bible earns our effort. The Bible is God’s gift to us so that we can fulfill the purpose for which we were made. As humans, God calls every one of us to bring him glory as the one who made us with every part of our being — our minds, our hearts, and our actions. This can only happen by seeing the glory of God and enjoying him in it. For this to happen, we need to see God as he truly is.

Only in God’s revealed word can we come face to face with the reality of who God is. Only in the Bible can we glimpse the glory of the King and Creator of the universe. So, the Bible, more than any other book, deserves our efforts.

Look at the Book is John Piper’s latest effort to help teach people to read the Bible for themselves. It’s an ongoing series of 8–12 minute videos in which the camera is on the text, not the teacher.

As part of this initiative, Desiring God is putting on regional events focused on certain passages of Scripture. This is Part 2 in a series on Romans 9 called “The Word of God Has Not Failed.”
