Jon Bloom

Position and description of what you do: Executive Director. I oversee all operations and personnel of Desiring God, focusing primarily on ministry direction, leading the management team, donor relations, and promotional efforts. I sit on the DG Board and am responsible to implement the decisions made by the Board.

How long have you been involved with DG? John Piper and I started DG in 1994. I have been on staff at Bethlehem since 1993.

Place of birth: Minneapolis, MN

Some favorite dead guys/gals: Augustine, G. K. Chesterton, Jim Elliot, Keith Green, C. S. Lewis, Rich Mullins, R. M. M'Cheyne, C. H. Spurgeon, J.R.R. Tolkien.

Some favorites still among the living: Mark Altrogge, Caedmon's Call, Michael Card, Sinclair Ferguson, Rick Gamache, CJ Mahaney, JP, Andree Seu, Switchfoot (I tend to read more dead authors and listen to more ”live” music!).

A Favorite Piper quote:
"The soul is measured by its flights,
Some low and others high,
The heart is known by its delights,
And pleasures never lie."
(The Pleasures of God, p. 16, 1991 edition.)

Family information:
Wife: Pamela (married in 1988)
Son: John Levi (born 1996)
Daughter: Eliana Esther Abigail (1998)
Son: Peter David Lewis (2003)
Daughter: Moriah Faith Gilia (twin: 2004)
Son: Micah James Immanuel (twin: 2004)

On living in Minneapolis, Minnesota: It feels like an old shoe. I was born and raised here.

What do you enjoy most for refreshment? Long conversations with Pam, "playtime" with my children, lively discussion with good friends, books that make my heart burn for God, music that stirs me to worship, a free hour and an available piano, and long walks down the lonely dirt road in Mission Township, MN. Thank you, M'Cheyne (my beloved dog), for the many walks we shared together. I miss you.

Ministry involvement other than DG: In 2000, Pam and I along with about 60 others were sent from Bethlehem to help strengthen a declining, independent sister church, Grace Church of Richfield. In 2003, the church was adopted into the Sovereign Grace Ministries family of churches and changed its name to Sovereign Grace Fellowship. It's my deep joy to serve this wonderful, growing fellowship as the Team Leader for Community Worship.
