About the speakers we've invited to this year's conference:
Kevin DeYoung
Kevin DeYoung is the Senior Pastor at University Reformed Church in East Lansing, MI and also serves as a council member at The Gospel Coalition and blogs on TGC’s DeYoung, Restless and Reformed. He attended Hope College and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He is the author of numerous books including Just Do Something: A Liberating Approach to Finding God's Will, and, new this fall, The Hole in Our Holiness: Filling the Gap between Gospel Passion and the Pursuit of Godliness. Kevin and his wife, Trisha, have five children.
Elyse Fitzpatrick
Elyse Fitzpatrick has been counseling women since 1989, leads Women Helping Women Ministries, and is a frequent speaker at women’s conferences. She holds a certificate in biblical counseling from CCEF (San Diego) and a M.A. in Biblical Counseling. Elyse is the author of numerous books including: Idols of the Heart, Because He Loves Me: How Christ Transforms Our Daily Life, and Give Them Grace: Dazzling Your Kids with the Love of Jesus. She has been married to her husband, Phil, for over thirty years and has three children and six grandchildren.
R W Glenn
R W Glenn is the Pastor of Preaching and Vision at Redeemer Bible Church in Minnetonka, MN. He is the author of various audio and video theological and evangelistic resources with Wretched Radio and Television, including Drive By Theology, Drive By Church History, and The Biggest Question. In addition, he has written a book with Tim Challies called Modest: Men and Women Clothed in Christ. His sermons and lectures are free for download at Solid Food Media. He and his wife, Gayle, have been married for seventeen years and have four children.
Sally Lloyd-Jones
Sally Lloyd-Jones is a British-born children’s book writer who moved to the States in 1989 “just for a year.” She’s still here, living in Manhattan. She worked in children’s book publishing for several years before leaving in 2000 to write full-time. She has written many books for children including the critically acclaimed New York Times Bestseller titled How To Be A Baby... By Me, The Big Sister, one of only six children’s titles selected by The New York Times as Notable for 2007. She has also written Christianity Today’s children’s Bible Storybook of choice, The Jesus Storybook Bible—Every Story Whispers His Name.
David Mathis
David Mathis is an elder at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, MN and executive pastoral assistant to John Piper. He graduated from Furman University and The Bethlehem Institute and is completing a distance M. Div. from Reformed Theological Seminary. David and his wife Megan live in Minneapolis, with their twin boys. He is author of several articles and chapters, a regular contributor to Desiring God Blog, and co-editor with John Piper of four books, including Finish the Mission: Bringing the Gospel to the Unreached and Unengaged.
Carolyn McCulley
Carolyn McCulley is a documentary filmmaker, author, and speaker. She is writing her third book on the topic of women and work, due out in January 2014. Her other books are Radical Womanhood: Feminine Faith in a Feminist World and Did I Kiss Marriage Goodbye? Trusting God with a Hope Deferred. She is a frequent conference speaker for women's ministry events and also maintains a blog, Radical Womanhood. In 2009, Carolyn started a documentary film company, Citygate Films, where she is a producer/director.
Russell Moore
Russell Moore is the Senior Vice-President for Academic Administration and Dean of the School of Theology at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. Dr. Moore writes and speaks frequently on topics ranging from the Kingdom of God to the mission of adoption to a theology of country music. He is the author of such books as Tempted and Tried: Temptation and the Triumph of Christ and Adopted for Life: The Priority of Adoption for Christian Families and Churches. He and his wife Maria have five sons.
Fernando Ortega
Fernando Ortega is a storyteller, worship leader, artist and vocalist of unparalleled talent. As a vocalist, he has been described by critics as gifted, unusually engaging, and refreshingly original. As a worship leader, he has established himself as a champion of the classic hymns of the church, insisting that our praise needs to carefully balance experiential and theological reflection. And as a story-teller, Fernando Ortega has written and recorded songs that are both unnervingly intimate and universal in appeal, lifting listeners both into and beyond themselves, moving them into stark personal reflection, joyful adoration, and praise.
John Piper
John Piper is Pastor for Preaching and Vision at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, MN. He grew up in Greenville, SC, and first sensed God's call to enter the ministry while studying at Wheaton College. For six years he taught Biblical Studies at Bethel College in St. Paul, MN, and in 1980 accepted the call to serve as pastor at Bethlehem. John is the author of more than 40 books including Desiring God: Meditations of a Christian Hedonist and Bloodlines: Race, Cross, and the Christian. John and his wife, Noel, have four sons, one daughter, and twelve grandchildren.
Ed Welch
Ed Welch is a faculty member at CCEF and holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology with a Neuro-psychology specialty from the University of Utah as well as an M.Div. from Biblical Theological Seminary. Ed has been counseling for over twenty-seven years and has written many books and articles on biblical counseling including, When People are Big and God is Small, Addictions: A Banquet in the Grave, Blame it on the Brain?, and Running Scared: Fear, Worry and the God of Rest. He and his wife, Sheri, have two daughters and two grandchildren.
Jarvis Williams
Jarvis Williams is an associate professor of New Testament and Greek at Campbellsville University and at Campbellsville University of Louisville. He holds a B.S. from Boyce College, a M.Div. in Biblical and Theological Studies, a M.Theol. in New Testament Greek Exegesis, and a Ph.D. in New Testament from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is the author of numerous books including One New Man: The Cross and Racial Reconciliation in Pauline Theology, and For Whom Did Christ Die: The Extent of the Atonement in Paul's Theology. Jarvis and his wife, Ana, have one son.
