We read stories about Christians being horrifically persecuted for their love of Christ. We marvel at their endurance and secretly wonder: if I were in their place, would I endure? In this Lab, Pastor John gives his answer.
Principle for Bible Reading
Past, Present, Future
The word of God reminds of us of past events, proclaims present actualities, and gives glimpses of future realities. Pay close attention to whether the verbs in the verse you’re studying are past, present, or future. God often surprises us with telling us how past events affect the present and future, and how future events are in some ways already present realities.
- Do you fear persecution? Which types of persecution are you most afraid of?
- Peter says something radical: we should rejoice in sharing the persecutions of Christ (1 Peter 4:13–14). What reason does Peter give for our joy?
- Watch the lab. What does it look like to experience the Spirit of glory according to Pastor John? Pray for more of this experience this week.
