Believers throughout history would rather lose their life than lose their relationship with Jesus. In this lab, John Piper reminds us that if we lose everything but gain Christ, we’ve lost nothing.
Some questions to ask as you read and study Philippians 2:14–18:
- How many things do you consider more precious than life itself? Is your relationship with Jesus one of those things?
- What does Paul mean when he says he might be “poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith” (Philippians 2:17)? How does he expect them to respond if that happened?
- If following Jesus is truly more precious to you than life, how can you increasingly display that to onlookers this week?
Principle for Bible Reading
Word searches are important for deep study of the Bible. To conduct one, search for a particular word throughout the Bible to help clarify meaning and make connections to other Scriptures. A concordance makes these searches easy as they list words and where each is used in the Bible. Beyond this you can usually search Bible apps or online texts for instances of where specific words are found throughout the Bible.
